Case: Stroke.
Introduction.
1. Stroke occurs when arteries that carry blood to the brain are blocked or ruptured.
2. The areas of the brain that do not get enough oxygen are immediately affected.
3. If no blood to brain stem - cannot breath and no heart rate
4. If no blood to cerebellum - no coordination balance
5. If no blood to cerebrum - cannot talk and no control motor function
6. A person might go limp on one side when attacked by stroke.
Type of stroke
1. Ischemic strokes
- cause : blood clot ( cerebral thrombosis or a cerebral embolism)
- cerebral thrombosis is more common- usually the result of fatty plaque build in arteries.
- brain do not have backup oxygen and nutrien system - 12 million cells will die perminute
- dying cells may release glutamate
- cause : bleeding in the brain
- in cerebral hemorrhage, blood go to surrounding tissues- due to aneurysm or head injury
- In a subarachnoid hemorrhage, the bleeding occurs between the brain and the skull- increase intracranial pressure
- High blood pressure
- Diabetics
- High Cholesterol Level
- Smoking
- Obese
- Sudden weakness or numbness in the face or extremities
- Sudden problems with speech or comprehension
- Sudden issues with vision, such as blurriness or blindness
- Sudden coordination issues, including dizziness or difficulty walking
- Sudden severe headache
- Sudden nausea or vomiting
